The Spokesman Review – Cowles Media – As Corrupt As It Gets

March 5, 2010 10:08 PM / 1 Comment / admin / Featured
March 5, 2010 | Written by: Retired Sheriff Tony Bamonte

To: Gary Graham, editor, Spokesman-Review, 999 West Riverside Avenue, Spokane, WA 99210

Dear Mr. Graham:

About a week ago, Randy Shaw, of KREM news Channel 2 broke a story concerning a major multi-million dollar fraud in the assessors office. I find it exceptionally suspicious and disappointing that there is no mention of that scandal in the Spokesman-Review, especially since in my research as a Spokane historian, this is the biggest scandal to ever occur in the history of the Spokane assessor’s office. In other words, this should be a front-page top-of-the-page headline, yet it did not receive even a mention in your newspaper.

I am aware of the vast amounts of properties your employers own, as I’m sure you must also be. I am also aware of real estate values in Spokane as, following my law enforcement career, I worked for three years in Spokane as an appraiser and 12 years as a licensed Washington State realtor. I have already examined some of the assessed values of Cowles’s real estate and have found them to be highly under-assessed in value. The fact that the assessor’s conduct is not being reported in your paper creates the impression that Mr. Baker is providing your employers with special property tax favors in return for political support and protection from your employers. As I recall (please correct me if I am wrong), Mr. Baker has been endorsed by your editorial board during each of his elections.

Most important, it appears Mr. Baker’s actions as the Spokane County Assessor are not honorable or in the best interest of the public. Consequently, the public has a need to when they have a corrupt official. Since the Spokesman-Review is the paper of record for Spokane County, you have an obligation to adhere to your code of ethics. The public has the right and need to know when a public official is corrupt. Consequently, you have a duty to inform the public of Mr. Baker’s misconduct in office.

Mr. Graham, at this time I respectfully request that you cause a journalistic investigation of the assessor’s office to be made and report according in a timely manner. Please advise me if I can be of any assistance in this matter.

Sincerely,

Tony Bamonte

The Mainstream Media’s Corporate Allegiance

January 29, 2010 6:20 PM / Leave a Comment / admin

I pledge “Corporate” Allegiance to the flag of the United States of the Socially Oppressed, and to the gods of  K and Wall Street for which it stands, one nation under absolute control of The Elite, without liberty or justice for the underlings amongst us.

Does the U.S. Media Avoid the Truth on Campaign Financing?

Freedom From The Press

I’ve written in the past where I believe American political corruption begins and ends. These articles are then sent to news sites such as CNN, Fox News, the Huffington Post, OpEdNews and other less read sites. Some articles are even sent to whitehouse.gov and the FCC. On rare occasion will I ever receive any feedback from anyone. At times, I’ll receive some half-baked explanation for why my viewpoints and constructive solutions are being censored as “promotional material” that will only be published if I purchase their advertising space. That’s right, if I want the truth to reach certain readers I’ll be required to pay before access is granted and the article is published.

What are the most important political issues facing America that are being censored by all U.S. mainstream media companies?

  • Thousands, millions if not billions of dollars are being raised by Americans seeking public office, where’s it being spent?
  • Should all entities receiving campaign funds be required by law to make full public disclosure?
  • Why are underfunded credible candidates being denied access by those in the media who cover elections?
  • Why does the media show no interest in covering viable populist political party’s or organizations?

The honest answer to these questions is the very same reason why the mainstream press hasn’t covered the part in President Obama’s State of the Union Address where he talks about reforming campaign financing laws. Instead of covering the issue head on, the mainstream press has chosen to cover the President’s attack of the recent pro-corporation decision rendered by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Honest, law abiding citizens want to reform U.S. government. We want to address the corruption and fraud within the government from our local city council’s all the way to our nations capitol. Many concerned citizens who consider themselves populists, have in the past, attempted to win public office. We’ve been largely ignored by the mainstream press and the two major party candidates not because we were unelectable or didn’t have a political agenda that wasn’t popular with the American people. Political news, candidates and important information is being suppressed by a political system that has it’s own agenda. Congress, the U.S. Supreme Court and President Obama know the truth. President Barack Obama has decided to speak out while everyone else is content with maintaining status quo. “We The People” only have one question, Why?

What’s happened to Democracy In America? And why have those in America who have the ability to raise public awareness on this issue remained quiet? We have concerts and events all across America to promote issues such as Farm Aid. What about American Democracy? Isn’t Of, By, and For “The People” worth organizing and fighting for? I’d expect media companies such as the Huffington Post to cover this story but, as in the past, I’m not holding my breath.

Dear President Obama, I personally want to thank you for raising this issue. It’s very important that we liberate our current body politic from the greed and corruption that holds America and its people hostage. The time has come for all U.S. citizens, of all color, to be freed from corporate tyranny and slavery. Let all men be free and equal. American justice must also be liberated and if a constitutional convention is required to restore justice across all segments of American society, so be it. I pray for your success and can only hold out hope that you’re 100% committed to these endeavors. That said, at 53 years of age, I’ve never been a member of the DNC or RNC for they are one in the same, 100% controlled by corporate agents of political influence.

Independently yours,
Steven Thompson, editor

Broadcast Television News

Since 1992, Democracy in America has taken a back seat to greed, lies, bias and corruption. The mainstream news media has taken on the roll of being the official marketing tool for those who benefit most from mass media’s propaganda and corruption.

This is not to say that television viewers have no credible source for news and information. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (PBS), Link-TV, Matrix News Network and Dan Rather Reports on HD.net are available to most media markets. Read More →

Spokane, WA – A City Held Hostage

August 22, 2008 10:16 PM / 4 Comments / admin / Featured

Spokane is a beautiful little town with a very ugly public relations problem. As a one-newspaper town, the public, and all forms of the local corporate media rely on The Spokesman-Review for accurate reporting of the news.

Has The Spokesman-Review acted in a responsible, ethical manner when covering issues or elections that directly impact their private business interests?

A few years ago The Spokesman-Review hired a new editor, Steven A. Smith. Mr. Smith inherited some very messy problems that were created by the previous editor Chris Peck and the newspapers owners, Betsy and Stacey Cowles. Read More →

Commission on Presidential Debates

As in the past, candidates running under the Republican and Democrat banners have received overwhelming media attention compared to candidates who have opted out of the two-party system. Do modern day Presidential debates add any real substance?

Do Americans have a Free Press?

August 9, 2008 4:29 PM / Leave a Comment / admin

The purpose of this dialog is to delve into one of the most important political problems of our time.

Our U.S. Constitution provides for a free press but how free is it? Our domestic media outlets are free enterprise businesses who are for the most part, privately owned and operated. That being said, every privately owned media company in America is subjected to the bias of its editors, owners or board of directors.

So, what happens when a news story first appears in the newsroom? The editor or news director makes the important decision on whether or not to cover the story. Stories that are given approval move onto the assignment desk where they’re handed down to the writer or reporter. When the work of the writer or reporter is complete, the story makes its way back to the editor and is either approved for publication/broadcast or, marked-up for further clarification.

In a perfect world, completed news stories would be presented in full for public consumption. Non-political stories such as those covering weather or sporting events are rarely manipulated by publishers or owners prior to public consumption but, the same cannot be said for political stories or, worse yet, election coverage.
