The year was 1993 when Al Gore debated H. Ross Perot on the merits of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The BIG lie told by Al Gore, “We’ll give NAFTA 6 months and if it isn’t working we’ll pull out.” That was 17 years ago and the big question to Americas working class is, Did NAFTA create a wealth of good paying American jobs?
Here’s a policy statement FFTP just received by Dr. Stan Cooke who’s seeking the GOP nomination in the 2010 Alabama primary for U.S. Congress. “I would repeal NAFTA and CAFTA – I believe in Free Trade that is Fair Trade – use Tarriffs when necessary. We have lost millions of jobs to Central & South American Countries and our economy has not grown – but shrank. Every stated goal of NAFTA & CAFTA has not occured. The Economic projections made by the CATO Institute and the Carnegie Foundation gave us trade revenue estimates of 800 Billion without NAFTA [between the regional nations] over the first 10 years of the agreement – the actual trade revenue exchange with NAFTA was 900 Billion for the first 12 years.”
When asked if Dr. Stan Cooke would vote to repeal S-900 (The 1999 Congressional gutting of the Glass-Steagall Act) Dr. Cooke stated, “I would repeal S-900 the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act [Senate - Phil Graham] also known as the Financial Services Act of 1999 in the House of Representatives [written and sponsored by Spencer Bachus]. This dissolved the Glass-Steagall Act and gave us sub-prime lending & the financial chaos of today. We have repeated the history of 1924-1933.”
Representative Spencer Bachus currently holds the very seat that Dr. Stan Cooke hopes to win. It would appear that the citizens of Alabama have real contrast in this years GOP Congressional race for the 6th. district. FFTP is currently awaiting word from Dr. Cooke on how he would reform current campaign financing laws. FFTP would love to see this contrast in Congressional candidates nationwide, Thank you for responding to our questions Dr. Cooke, and best of luck…
